This site was developed by Michael Brandt and Oriana Anholt of mediumbold. The site grew out of our
appreciation for design, communication, and the beauty of the letterform. Originally designed in 1996, it has become a well-used reference for many
teachers and students of typographic design, as well as an educational resource for casual viewers. Evolution of Type has received an Adobe FlashPoint
award, a High5 award, and was published in "Cutting Edge Web Design" by Daniel Donnelly, 1998. The site was redesigned in 2001
to improve its performance, navigation, content, and design. The "Output" section, "under construction" since its original launch, was
finally completed.
Many of the sources used to research this site can be found in the
"Resources" section. Many others are out of print or unavailable.
